And I sent the hornet before you,
    Joshua 24:12
Would call that a small, unexpected but very effective army. Numbers, stragities,
, swords, Spears arrows, chariots, and horses didn’t scare them one bit

Looking at the Strongs it comes from a root word meaning leprosy. So this may not be an actual bug as so much perhaps a form of leprosy that develops painful welts. Just a thought…

Day 93- Today we are reading chapters 22-24 of Joshua/Yehoshua. Just like that and we are done with another book!

    • “…you know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spoke concerning you; all have come to pass to you, and not one thing has failed of it.” Jos 23:14. I love when this sort of testimony exists. Joshua exhorts the people to continue in their diligence to maintain YHVH’s Torah. YHVH’s promises matter.

I miss having the Torah Pearls every day. can you reference other study you have for us daily?

    • It is interesting to note that of the three refuge cities within the modern day borders of Israel, only one, Kedesh, is accessible to modern Jews by law. Shechem (renamed Nablus) and Hebron are both under Palestinian Authority control since 1995. Although there is no temple or high priest for the return of a refugee, you could, according to Torah, flee and stay until the death of the high priest. Today that would mean until the refugee’s death and there is no such idea of “accessibility” because Kedesh is I the far north of Israel very near the ancient ruins of Tel Dan. The other 3 cities named are now in modern Syria and just as inaccessible. Very somber facts in my opinion for modern Torah keepers under current political situations. Much needs to change.

On a more positive note, Jos 21:43, “Nothing failed of all the good things which [YHVH] had spoken to the house of Israel; all came to pass.” gives us hope that one day the people of YHVH may again enjoy the promises.

        Hi Sven.
Thanks it is a very interesting note.
I was thinking that most of the places mentioned I dont even know. had to look them up in a map.;-)
But asstonishing to note that they finally got it right, YHVH blessed them in concurring the land.
Then we read that YHVH kept His promises and gave them the land and that none of the good promises failed.

wow this really inspires me. How Great to know that He really keeps His side of the promise!
I pray that I too am someone who keeps her promises!!

Nothing earth shattering or anything, I am just finding it hard to believe that we’re 91 days into the reading already.

One observation: I’m always surprised by the fear in those who don’t want to go fight for the land they were given. They’ve seen the same miraculous victories for years now, but they still see giants.

Human nature is a pain, isn’t it? 🙂 How many of us would be just like the group who saw the giants rather than all the victories? I’m not sure what I would be like; maybe I’d be the one vacillating, one minute faithful, one minute not so much.

        Hi Dawn,

Your comment re: Israel only seeing giants really resonates with me. I find that it is often my tendency to only see the “giants” in my own life. The difficulties, the negatives, the seemingly insurmountable.

I appreciate how you plucked that nugget of treasure out of this book!

Thank you, Edie. I often wonder though; would it be easier to believe in victories if I’d had 40 years of the miraculous? Sometimes I think it would be, then other times I think it wouldn’t be. They had 40 years of manna that they didn’t have to do anything for, they just went out and got it.. Now they have to “do something”.

Still, I wish I’d had even a few years of the miraculous just to experience it. 🙂

By the way, how did you upload your pic?

          Thanks!

I am not sure how my photo is on here other than I have a WordPress account and somehow it linked here. I only made that connection because this is the photo I have for my WordPress user account.

        You are totally right Dawn!
I also seem to find it hard at times to believe that in Him we can concure the Giants in our lives!
Simetimes I am strong and simetimes i really struggel to have the patience to wait on Him without loosing belief of giving up. It really is about persevering.
The more I grow in my belief the more I feel He asks me to persevere.

As I read today’s selection of Joshua 7-9, I could not help but reflect on two of the most thought provoking films I have ever seen on the subject of Biblical archeology supporting the conquest of the land by Joshua and Moshe’s authorship of Torah. Tim Mahoney’s “Patterns of Evidence: Exodus” makes too many points to be easily dismissed by even the most cynical historian. https://patternsofevidence.com/trailer-videos/
And his most recent film, “Patterns of Evidence: The Moses Controversy” takes on the argument for Moshe’s Torah authorship, something long refuted in academia. The idea that Moshe did not write the Torah is in direct conflict with Joshua 8:32 of today’s reading as well as Joshua 8:35. Such a claim seeks to undermine the historacity of the Biblical account and bring into question the basis for our beliefs. If indeed Moshe was not the author, we have, all of us, been duped. The Book itself would be named a liar (Yah forbid!). This foundational truth is well represented by Mr. Mahoney’s research and should not be missed.

I found these two films fascinating and I think all of you will too! I encourage you to watch them in order as they tend to build upon one another.

Seb, I think you will find them most interesting, given your comments and questions this morning! Though we can’t know absolutely of course, personally I am inclined to think that it was the 10 words that were written on the stones.
May Yah bless and keep you all!

I have a question regarding Joshua 8:32. What law was written on the stones? Maybe my friends here who understand better the hebrew language have some details. Could it be the entire book of deuteronomy, or only the ten commandments?

I am also interested on a study regarding the law (torah). I know that there are different Hebrew words for different kinds of laws (mihpat, qhucah, mitzvah, mismereth). Is there a systematical study on this topic? Many friends with who I am speaking say that the moral law is made of the ten commandments and the rest is different. Maybe you can give me some reference.

    May YHVH bless you all.

First let me say, I am so excited to sharing this year long trek with fellow lovers of the Book! As a Torah observant lover of Yah, the last decade has at times been lonely. This forum is, quite literally, an answer to prayer. Thank you Keith for facilitating this forum and this project!

The final verses of today’s reading “jumped off the page for me” as Keith would say. It seems to me that the curse of Jericho, one of the oldest cities known to mankind, could arguably be still in effect this very day.

When I watch the man made government in Israel today it does not fit the Picture in my mind of How Israel should be. These men in Joshua had the will to do what is right. They would take any abomination or idea that YHWH had said will cause Israel to be separated from the Creator and destroy it. Today in Israel in my mind it looks like it did when YHWH divorced them and scattered us all over the world. There is every religion, god, and abomination that YHWH hates there. In my mind when YHWH gathers us back to Israel we will be ready to do what it takes to be a Qodesh nation set apart from the world and willing to protect and live the TORAH as we are suppose to.

  • As I read the beginning chapters of Joshua this morning, I was reminded of how people make different choices with the same data. Rahab and all the others in Jericho had heard of the works of Yehovah and were all aware (and afraid) of Yehovah’s power, but only Rahab and her family chose to join Yehovah’s side. The king of Jericho and those loyal to him were willing to fight against Yehovah. Maybe they trusted their wall to save them, and maybe to them loyalty to their city was supreme. Our loyalty to Yehovah should be greater than any national loyalty. Rahab was rewarded for protecting the spies sent from Yehovah, even though she had to lie in the process.

      I’m excited!

At the end of chapter 3 we are IN Eretz Y’srael and what an entrance we made. I love to picture the looks on the faces of the people in Adam and Zarethan as the river just quits flowing, like it’s hit an invisible dam. Doing so reminds me of how real this is.

Picture the water: it’s still flowing up to the point it hits the wall Yehovah put there, so it’s splashing and gurgling up to that point and then, nothing! The people seeing this much have been terrified. Imagine the guy who was fishing just down the way from that stopping point. Rahab told the spies that the people were already terrified. How much more so after this experience?

Yehovah had told Yehoshua (isn’t that fun to see those names in close proximity) that he was going to perform these miracles from the beginning so that the people would know that He was with him like He had been with Moses. I believe that this miracle was as much for the people of Canaan as for the Israelites.

“That’s right! Yehovah is here and with Him, His army. Your sin is complete and the land cries out against you. I have heard that cry and am ready to remove you from this place.”

      Talk about making an entrance!
