Chapter 11 re: clean and unclean meats had me sort of scratching my head.

First we have Nadab and Abihu bringing “strange” fire before Yehovah and they die for that.

Next thing we know Yehovah is speaking directly to Aaron about not drinking alcohol before going into the tabernacle of meeting so that the priests can distinguish between holy and unholy AND between clean and unclean.

Then next thing we have Yehovah giving BOTH Aaron and Moshe the instructions about what animals are clean vs. unclean. Hmm…

What if Nadab and Abihu’s “strange fire” had something to do with sacrificing an unclean animal because they were drunk? The context in the placement of these instructions regarding the clean/unclean animals seems to go right along with whatever, specifically, it was that Nadab and Abihu did.

Not saying that this IS what happened but the fact is we don’t truly know the specific details other than they did something seriously wrong, they disobeyed Yehovah, and brought “strange fire” before Him. The following instructions given directly to Aaron would seem to coincide with the Nadab and Abihu incident.

Anyone notice the command to not eat blood but also not to eat the fat! Lev 3:17

In chapter 4 I noticed that when the priest sins or when the people as a corporate body sin in ignorance then find out blood in not sprinkled on the alter but “before the LORD, before the vail of the sanctuary.” All other times the blood is sprinkled on the alter (usually the horns) and poured out at the bottom of the alter.

I find it interesting that much of the “goods” to make the tabernacle came from pagan Egypt. Jewels, gold, brass ….

My guess at the meaning of this…All true believers are grafted in and make up the true temple of God. We are as jewels and gold in His temple!?

  • Shalom everyone
In reading chapter 39 I realise that the mention of the Israelites on the garments doesn’t remember the past nations of those who came out of Egypt who were not Israelite so their past is forgotten and they are integrated into Israel and Israel has one set of instructions as Yehovah is the same yesterday today and in forever it’s this will stay the same . So Israel is composed of those who believed and left Eygypt as the story flow continues we will see people being cut Off I believe for lack of belief and cooperation with Yehovah instruction so yes Israel are those who believe and do the instructions of Yehovah .
    Grafted in or cut off
    Both agricultural terms

I cannot believe we are already done with Shemot. This is going way too fast.

As usual I forced myself to read this section – yes, forced. Why couldn’t Moses just say something like, “And they did all Yehovah had commanded” instead of repeating the instructions Yehovah had given in describing what the Hebrews did?

After all these years of reading this book I think I might know why. In context, Moses is writing this down and all the people are going to see the Tabernacle and all the furnishings and all the vestments regularly. This will go on for generations, so what was the point? Everyone who was at the Tabernacle and later the Temple could physically see that it was done exactly as Yehovah had instructed. But we don’t have the Temple anymore so we CAN’T see that everything was done exactly as Yehovah commanded. Maybe the seeming redundancy is for us; since we can’t see with our eyes the Tabernacle, the furnishings, or the vestments, through the words here we can be transported in our minds to “see” what those at Mt. Sinai saw, that every instruction was carried out to the minutest detail.

One last thought: I always wonder if Aaron felt completely unworthy as they placed all those vestments on him. The golden calf incident wasn’t that long ago and now he was carrying the weight of all the tribes of Israel on his shoulders (gems on shoulder pieces) and on his heart (the ephod with 12 stones), plus the frontlet declaring “Holy to Yehovah”. He was holy, but so was the nation he represented.

Aaron had a great responsibility and had failed spectacularly with the golden calf, but Yehovah continued to use him. I personally doubt that he ever felt completely comfortable in this role after his failure, but it’s a profound message to all who came after him: Yehovah forgives and will fulfill His promises and plans through those He chooses even when they fail miserably.

Sometimes that’s the greatest blessing our Father gives us.

Thank you for using us anyway, Father. May your Name be forever sanctified.

I agree Dawn and it shows me also that it is all about HOM not about us or what we can or cannot do. He uses whom He whats and for the reason He wants with all our faults and mistakes.

        How awesome is that.
Even something as Holy as the Tabernacle he has let man build!!
And then deciding to live IN us with all our flaws.

We are not worthy of His presence….But I do pray that I become more worthy of Him the older I get.. That it is more of Him and less of me. But still flawing daily!!

  • Judith Damminga
    February 9, 2019 at 7:23 am  /

I was awakened bij the part that Moses wants to see the glory of YeHoVaH.
Chapter 33 vers 19“I will cause all My goodness to pass in front of you,” the LORD replied, “and I will proclaim My name—YeHoVaH—before you. I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” 20. And He added, “You cannot see My face, for no one can see Me and live.” 21. And the LORD said, “Behold, there is a place by me where you shall stand on the Rock, and when My glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand until I have passed by. Then I will take My hand away, and you will see My back; but My face must not be seen.”

I have never noticed this before. I always thought it was in the cave on the mountain. But is says here clearly “I will put you in a cleft of the rock” “a place by me where you shall stand on the Rock”. There is only one rock spoken of, this is the Split rock!

DO YOU GUYS SEE AND READ AND REALIZE WHAT I SUDDENLY SEE?

Oh my I am flabbergasted, totally!

    Shalom,
Thank you Judith for your reply. I agree with your understanding. In the reading today 35: 1-2, we read how Moshe gathered the whole Israelite community and again told them to keep the Shabbat to rest and be set apart for Hashem. Soon in future reading a member of the Israelite community who was not part of the 12 tribes will be given an inheritance of land for his faith. To me this also demonstrates that being an Israelite is not a race it is faith.

In chapter 32:7 Here YeHoVaH Tells Moses “for your people”. when we read on we see that the people were complaining that their leader had gone and not come back. To me it sounds like YeHoVaH hears what the people are complaining about and lets Moses know they are calling for you. They had verboten YeHoVaH already. They don’t has for HIM but for Moses.
How wonderful to read that Moses does not forget all the wonders YeHoVaH has done and he remembers YeHoVaH that He made a promise to the Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and that He cannot break this promise.

I also love how Moses intercedes for the sons of Israel. What a prayer and what a humbleness, Moses keeps reminding YeHoVaH that they are HIS people and not Moses.

YeHoVaH is really testing Moses heart here to me. Now He will send an angel instead of Himself…but also here Moses doesn’t agree.
I too have struggled a lot with YeHoVaH and I always have found it inspiring that YHVH will take on a challenge. He will go into the discussion with us.
I have often heard that it was a sin to doe so. But I know for a fact and also reading these stories that it is NO sin to take on a challenge with HIM.
It is because He goes with us that we are distinguished from all the other nations!

The Moses’ asks if he may see YeHoVaH. verses 21-23 are very surprising to me…I always thought he met God on the mountain…but reading this it really sounds like Moses is put in the split rock. For he shall stand there on the rock. There is no other rock that there is spoken of then the split rock. I don’t believe that He is talking about the mountain. In chapter 34 hHe calls Moses specifically uo the mountain….so what is this with the Rock?

has anyone any thoughts on this??

I also find it surprising that YeHoVaH starts off with the feast of unleavened bread here. He could of stoppedat vers 17 I would think…but then he goes on to explain that they have to keep the Feast of unleavened bread. It wasn’t just a one time thing was going to be something they would remember forever. It expands it here with the First fruits and shavuoth. 3 times a year aan the males are to appear before YeHoVaH, but this fall feast is not really mentioned yet is it?? Only briefly in chapter 30 vers 10 if I am correct?

enough stuff for me to keep standing on….

    blessings.

Day 38- Today we are reading chapters 32-34. I love this section of Exodus/Shemot!

  • ex. 30.12.ESV
The story of the census of David against Isreal? Was it that David did not charge the rsnsom? Other kings numbered the people and no record of plagues against them.
David admitted his guil and chose the plague by the hand of Yahovah, because “let us fall into the hand of Yahovah because his mercy is great.”
(2 Sam 24) the beauty of the end of the story is that is where King David offered up a sacrifice and said “I will not sacrifice to Yahovah that which cost me nothing. And at that spot it seems that the temple was built.

    HI Everyone,

I am excited, was thinking about the order YeHoVaH was giving to Moses. It is a weird order if you first look at it.
Ark of the covenant, The table of Showbread, The Lamp stand, (why not here the alter of incense) Linen curtains, the roof curtains, boards and sockets, veil and screen, The bronze alter, the courtyard, garments for the priest, consecration of the priest, food for the priests, Alter of incense, the anointing oil, skilled craftsmen, Sign of the Sabbath.

But pondering over this with my husband we were surprised.

The Ark of the covenant is where the 10 words will be but in so I can imagine why YeHoVaH says it first and it is the most Holy!
But the Alter of Incense is almost at the end…..hmmmm.

We found out that the alter of incense are our prayers that are lifted up to YeHoVaH. this is a sweet cent to Him!
The bronzed alter has to burn first because the coals that come from it are needed for this alter. So our sins have to be dealt with first.

We also have to be purified before we come before our God.

Also an offering must be made first to be able to put the blood on the horns of the alter.
So there is an order here that is well thought over.

There is probably much more to this.

The blood must be done once a year….The feast of Yom Kippur;-)…. Purification of the nations.

The alter of incense stands just in front of the curtain to the Holy of Holies.

We also stand before the almighty lifting up our prayers to Him.

It is so amazing to me that nothing is randomly said nor done or even written down.

    Shalom,

    bookclub friends

    • Shalom Judith
Amen to all you just said all these things are to reveal a greater future-( from that point ) fulfilment . They are copies of the heavens and the order of them is important as you correctly point out amazing and awesome that you saw this thank you . Judith

I find it amazing how much we don’t know about Exodus from typical generic churches or movies on Christianity and such, I always thought when I was younger Moses had the staff and Aharon spoke for him but I have been reading Exodus in the Israel Bible and Moses didn’t even have the staff a lot of the time Aharon had the staff and spoke..
I can get from this though as it says in Exodus that Moshe (Moses) was to Aharon *Like Yehovah* this is the resembling of the Son Yeshua (The word of God) being the right hand man to Yehovah the Father so Moshe resembles THE FATHER and Aharon Resembeles Yeshua speaking what he is told from Yehovah.

There is quite a lot of mirroring in the bible Jona and the wale, Noahs Ark a place of safety, Yeshua and the sign of Jonah, every 2000 years or so something major happens 2000 years after creation the world flood give or take a couple hundred years, then 2000 years or so after yeshua birth and death and then 2000 years or so after The end times approximation and return of Yeshua.

      Hi Timothy,

As I read it until now…is that we are grafted in…this means we are one family. The Israelites who came out of Egypt were not all sons of Israel but YeHoVaH included them in all the commandments that were given for they were grafted in. I believe there is only one nation. So the comments are for us as well…as we are also gifted in.

This makes it so special to read and to realize. We are one and the same people!!

Shalom Yehovah be with every one

On re reading chapter 28 and seeing the standard of materials used for Arron and his sons to minister as priests and to represent the people to Yehovah , they must have wondered what Yehovah had in mind for them . They were to be a special treasure to Him and it seems to me this is of course implied by the vauable stones that were to have the names of 12 tribes along side them . After being slaves for so long to be represented by the valuable things of the world would be encouraging to say the least.

Let them construct a sanctuary for ME, that I may dwell among them.

When do we hear this more? In the feast of tabernacles and also in Yeshua who will tabernacle amongst us…and the He leaves and sends the Holy Spirit to tabernacle within us. If I pull the 3 together, they become one in me and me in HIM. Wow.

So all this should live in me…the table of show bread= the Manna from heaven=bread of life, the Menorah=Yeshua= tThe light of the world… The altar of incense= our prayers… and The Ark of the covenant which is THE Heart of YeHoVaH. This Lives in us!

Amazing I don’t even know if I can totally comprehend this but what a Father we have that wants to be with us, this close in us, with the most precious stuff He has!!!

What risks He is taking. But does it out of love for us. To show all the world how much He truly loves us! It is all about Him and His unparalleled Love.

I just can’t get over it and makes me feel so humbled. So blessed and so careful of what and I how I do things.

      Hi, Judith.

It’s fun to see your passion for our Father and the way you made the connection with the Feast of Tabernacles. That feast commemorates living in tents in the wilderness and how Yehovah protected and provided for His people during that time. Someday I’d dearly love to celebrate it in Jerusalem as it’s supposed to be celebrated.

I would ask a favor, though if you could. I respect your faith and how you see Yeshua in places, but not everyone on this forum shares your beliefs about him. Some of the statements made here take the conversation away from the common ground of the language, history, and context of The Book. The favor I ask is that our conversations remain focused on that (language, history, and context of the Hebrew Scriptures) without adding our beliefs to the discussion.

Thank you so much for your excitement, and thank you for considering my request. I appreciate both very much.

    • Dawn Marie McAlister
      February 3, 2019 at 6:54 pm  /

We have now started one of the most difficult parts of Shemot for me to read. I so very much want to skip all the measurements and numbers because they are meaningless to my brain; these measurements simply do not help me picture anything since my brain doesn’t work in numbers.

But I read each section despite my difficulty with the measurements, and I do it because they still teach me something. Yehovah designed the Tabernacle and no detail was too small for Him to care about, just as no detail was too small for Him to care about when He was creating all that is seen and unseen. When something belongs to Him, He cares about every excruciating detail.

The Earth is Yehovah’s, and everything in it; all the people who dwell in it are His (Psm 24:1, paraphrase).

What joy that He cares so much, and what a great responsibility we have to also care. We can’t care as perfectly as He does, but if we are going to “be perfect as He is perfect”, it’s imperative that we do the very best we can.

    Shabbat Shalom everyone…

What jumped out for me this time was…”Honor your father and your mother”…. But why….
It does not say love them it says honour them.
I have been thinking a lot about “in heaven as on earth” And just like the “ark” is the heart of YeHoVaH is honouring our father and our mother a refection of our Honouring HIM. Wow never thought of it that way before!

On the 3rd day YeHoVaH came down and on the 3rd day Yeshua arose….heaven and earth kiss each other on the 3rd day!

Seeing the mount on different video’s and Foto’s I am totally stunned at how Moses could of walked up that mountain so often and so fast. Amazing. He wasn’t a Jong man…even though he never lost his strength. It is still a mighty molten that some took 6 hours to walk up.

Hear we only hear of burnt and peace offerings. All the other offerings appear after they have sinned. Amazing

Day 33-Today we are reading chapter 21-22.

  • How many laws has goverments passed? Yahovah’s put out 10 that pretty much covers it. They can be broken down to two, Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and love your neighbor as yourself, on theses hang all the law and the prophets.
Something which can be done by us.

Just some thoughts on the last few chapters.
    1. What became of Moses’s two sons?

    2. When did Moses send her back to her father? The commentary in my bible says it was during the Exodus 4: 25-26 incident. How do they know? Tradition? Maybe. She wouldn’t have be sent back while Moses and Pharaoh were going head to head. Being as the Hebrews were slaves there would have been no one able to leave to escort her safely back to Dad. Could she have gone back home after the crossing of the sea with an able bodied Hebrew escort to let her father know that the people are now free?

    3. Exo 18:20  And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.

” and the work that they must do” Still a bunch of rable rousers and God has plans for them to spread the “Good News” in the future. Which they failed. 🙁

  • Day 32-Today we are reading chapters 19-20 of Exodus/Shemot and I sure hope you have watched the Ten Matters Scripture Bytes series!

    https://bfainternational.com/type/scripturebytes/

  • The issue seems to me that those who are in love with Yahovah arrange their life to walk out what he asks. Not because of laws and commands, but because of their desire to please. Life with him is not by rule book alone, but incorporating these things into our life because we are in love with Yahovah. If we love him, we talk to him about what we need, not complain behind his back.

Day 31- Today we are reading chapters 16-18 in Exodus/Shemot.

    • Wow never noticed that 16:4 says “test them, whether they will walk in my law or not.” They haven’t gotten to Sinai yet.

However we see they are given instructions about the manna in 16:20 “But they did not listen to Moses.”

So they are having to begin to develop a willingness to obey. Praise our Father who is patient to train us in obedience.

      • You caught that Ken!

        Shalom Ken
also it is true that sabbath is the test given here before the instructions at Sinia are given sabbath …for those who say the commandments/law is done away with it is called rebellion not to obey Yehovah in this . It is a test even today … I see here how the Israelites had nothing to loose here by obeying they would not loose a job as they were being taken in a group and everyone was instructed , but it does show how ingrained the ways of Egypt were and or lack of trust in Yehovah to take care of their daily needs .

What an amazing way, YeHoVaH has redeemed HIS people!
He redeemed all of Israel en their sojourners….He redeemed all the first born and wants us to keep redeeming our first born. To lift them up to Him so they will be His;-)

I find it amazing that after so many centuries they still remembered to take Josef along with them. This even has been escalated and the tomb of Josef was empty but the tub of the other 11 still had bones in them. Makes you think Why only Josef?
I think because he stands for the 10 tribes that will be scattered and Divorced, but whom Yeshua has come to collect and bring back home. All who look up to Him for salvation.

There is so many miracles in chapter 14 it is dazzling !
Just imagine how many man there must have been here from Egypt, 600 select chariots, and all the other chariots of Egypt with officers, horseman and army. Were their even any men left in Egypt. All the first born have died and now almost all the men are dad. My goodness!!

What a weird thing to say to Mozes….YeHoVaH says….”why are you crying to me”? was there any sign maybe that Moses was already doing things out of his own strength?

vers 19 is just amazing. THE ANGEL (Yeshua) who had been going BEFORE the camp of Israel moved and went BEHIND them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood Behind them. Is the angel and the pillar one and the same? Can anyone see this in the Hebrew?

What a beautiful song of Moses and what a witness of YeHoVaH’s mighty hand! A shame the most of the churches do not read much of the 1st covenant. It is SO RICH.

YeHoVaH still tests us if we follow HIS statue and regulation. In my life I have witnessed that He has been a healer in my life. SO amazing. Such an awesome God is HE.

  • I love that this chapter makes provision for us strangers, and strangers are not foreigners. Verse 49, There shall be one law for the citizen and for the stranger who dwells among you. So I guess us strangers better wake up and start acting like citizens.

  • Ex.12:27 and the people bowed their heads and worshiped. – ad for me and my house we shall worship also.

I love this chapter….It is such a beautiful foreshadow of our Messiah and how he was to come as THE Profet of whom we must SHEMA!

I underline everything YeHoVAH says in red and He is speaking half this chapter!

It is amazing the YeHoVaH sets His calendar so that we have o pay attention to His creation and only now a short time ahead when the new year will be.
It makes me think all the speculating that is happening about “the end times”. The way I read the bible is we will only know a short time ahead when en what will happen so we have to pay attention. We can’t sit back and think we know now how to read the times nor Revelation. His Light will shine on that time when the time comes. In the mean time we have to go in to all the earth and makes disciples, obey His commandments, Love our neighbour as ourself and YeHoVaH above all. This is hard enough to me.

We have realized that obeying is a blessing. My Husband has been circumcised because of reading these stories and this chapter of the Passover. We were shocked to find out hoe serious our Father is when it comes to His commandments and His passover. It is not a thing to be taken lightly.
That is what I get out of these chapters. It is hard being in Babylon to keep the biblical new year and we don’t really know how to celebrate this. But we recognize it and with a meal of lamb (not a whole lamb) and bitter herbs unleavened bread and wine and read the story to remember what He has done for us. we try to celebrate it as a feast to YeHoVaH. It should be with the whole Familie or with others and this has not been possible yet. We once did it with friends in Israel and this truly was a feast!

vers 12: For I will go through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike down all the first born in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgement – I AM YeHoVaH. (the one and only real GOD)

It Must have been a awesome sight to see such a multitude of people leaving., taking also all the riches of the land with them. They left the land totally bankrupt!!!

I also love vers 41…. ALL THE HOSTS….which is repeated in…vers 51… And on that same day YeHoVaH brought the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt BY THEIR HOSTS. They were escorted by the heavenly host of HIS divine counsel! WOW. The came in with Jacob and left with the whole nation of Israel!!!

Denise, I have seen Michael Rood do this in his passover celebrations. I have never seen it done at homes though. But it is a beautiful Picture of Yeshua on the cross. Not a bone was broken in his body. Which to me is a miracle in itself, the way he was treated.

    • Judith, I noticed the circumcision requirement last year (apparently I am good at reading over stuff as it was by no means the first time I read this). I told my son he should be happy I choose to have this done when he was a baby. This is definitely an active decision/declaration of faith when chosen by an adult male.

Verse 9 speaks of roasting the lamb with it’s purtenance. UGH! I looked up the meaning of the word and some say just liver, heart and lungs, some say entrails which would mean stomach and bowel contents.

I can’t imagine God would want us to roast and eat animal poop so I would go with the first definition. We are not supposed to even break a bone of the lamb. It would be possible to remove these parts without bone breakage.

    Shalom,
Chapter 12 has so much information. Maybe some day a book could be written by Keith and Nehemiah. Seems the Jewish and Christians both have a lot to learn here.

Once a person has enough information to decide to walk in a covenant relationship with YHWH, shouldn’t they first be taught verse 48.

At this time there was all 12 tribes and a mixed multitude. If someone shakes their family tree and no Jews fall out does this mean they cannot be come part of Israel?

Who is verse 47 talking about?

    What does verse 48-51 teaching?

  • Pharoah servants said to him, don’t you understand that Egypt is in ruins? (And this is before the locust! ) after the locust, came the darkness. . . A darkness to be felt. No one moved for three days. So unless you were at the table, no eating or drinking, no getting up to get to the outhouse, so this one definitely got to Pharaoh’s personal side. And to all of Egypt,
Pretty sure I don’t want any of that hardness of heart stuff. Plan on keeping my heart pliable in Yahovah’s hands

    January 27, 2019 at 11:26 am  /

I guess I am a head of time here. But in reading chapters 7-9 I payed attention to the Pharaoh and his heart being hardened. Who hardened and what kind of hardening was this?
The hardening of the heart shows up 10 times up til now.
    the first time is in
7:13 here Pharaoh’s heart was hardened….it was made strong

in vers 14 Yehovah says…his heart is stubborn or heavy.

in vers 22 Pharaoh’s heart was hardened…..it was made strong

in *:15 When Pharaoh saw there was relief, he hardened his heart

vers 19…. Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, ….it means strong again

vers 32…. Pharaoh’s heart was hardened…. made heavy

    9:7 …… Pharaoh’s heart was hardened….heavy

vers 12 then YeHoVaH hardens Pharaoh’s heart…. made it strong

vers 34 Pharaoh’s hardened his heart…. made heavy

vers 35Pharaoh’s heart was hardened…. strong

I don’t know if I am right here but it looks like Pharaoh’s heart is heavy but is made strong to be able to out live the plagues.
It seems that YeHoVaH is using these plagues to show the whole world WHO HE IS.
The Egyptians had Manny Gods all for different things.
This is an educational moment for Egypt and all the world (who read the story now) That He is The One and Only God. There is none like Him. He reigns above all the earth and even all the forces of the earth have to obey Him.

Especially with the 7the plague when fire and hail come together. To them these are 2 different gods that cannot come together. They don’t mix. Only YehoVaH can make these elements stand together and function. Her he says here that YeHoVaH is the righteous one, and the he and his people are wicked ones…..but Mosrs sees through this and says; I know that you do not yet FEAR YeHoVaH.
He does recognizes that YeHoVaH is THE only God but does not FEAR him with holy fear.

Then we get in brackets that it is the time of the Aviv !!

What I noticed in genesis but also here is that when YeHoVaH chooses someone there is no saying no unless you really want trouble. When you are really called for something you kinda really have to listen to Him. He gives you a chance to choose but with the slightest attention there is no way back. Amaszing. He really knows what he does!!

what I also read that popped out was 9:20 The one among the servants of Pharaoh who feared the word of YeHoVaH made his servants and his livestock flee into the houses.
These are the ones that also leave with the Israelites when the Exodus out of Egypt!!

    Shabbat Shalom

  • And Aaron rod became a serpent, and the magicians did the same, and Aaron’s rod swallowed up the magician’s rods,
Wonder what the magicians thought when they had to walk away without their rods, a symbol of their power? Then YHVH begin to send the plagues, and the magicians did the same, with the blood, and the gnats,
But with the flies Yahovah seperated the land of Goshen which did not have any of the rest of the plagues. A clear division where the Lord said these are mine.

Day 27- Today we are reading chapters 7-9 in Exodus/Shemot.

  • Looking at the Hebrew in Exodus 5:4, I noticed that all of a sudden it is the “king of Egypt” speaking rather than “Pharaoh” as in 5:2. Also, the Hebrew word for “releasing from burdens” has the same root letters as Pharaoh. It seems like the Scripture is hinting that Elohim’s authority to release from burdens is greater than any earthly king who does not want to release them from their burdens.

What stunned me in this part of chapter 4 vers 24-26, after listening to Thora pearls is…how important YeHoVaH takes his commandments.
The circumcision is a commandment given to Abraham….. how important is this for us as grafted in ones also being Israel?
But the sentence “You are a bridegroom of blood to me”…Made me suddenly realize that Yeshua also is a “Bridegroom Of Blood” to us. He is also a “Firstborn”…..he also is circumcised!
It reads as if the Angel fought with Moses but Nehemia implies that it is the firstborn of Moses the angel was fighting with! This does make so much more sense.

    Shabbat Shalom

    • Shalom Judith,

Indeed, our Abba Father YHVH’s Loving Instructions are the Essence of Life, but not for the reasons we may think in our finite minds.

In Abba’s Heart He requires not “obedience to commands” – as we are taught to think in religion through interpreted and translated Scripture – as if in prideful arrogance to exult Himself above His Creation but Desires that we Shama – a Heartfelt Feeling and Following with the Joyful Heart of a child – His Voice as we Rest in Him as One while He continues to Humbly Share His Love with us and through us in Our ongoing “Lessons In Love” that is “Life More Abundantly” in the Spirit of Relationship – Father and child, Husband and wife, and Best of Friends.

“For I did not speak with your fathers, or Instruct them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Mitsrayim, about matters of burnt offerings or slaughterings. But this Word I did Instruct them, saying, “Shama My Voice, and I shall be your Elohim, and you be My people. And Walk in All the Ways that I have Instructed you, so that it be Well with you.” – Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 7:22-23

Remember… when Abba Walked with and among us in the flesh – Serving to once and Forever bring to our Attention what He Shares is “The Spirit of My Words” – He reminded us that “The Words I speak with you are Spirit and are Life” (Yohanan [John] 6:63) thus confirming what He Shares with us in Our Everyday Experiences Encountered Together as well as throughout Scripture including in Yehezqel (Ezekiel) 18:32, “For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies,” declares the Master YHVH, “So turn back and Live!”

As Abba Shares regarding the Heavenly Treasure of Heartfelt Presence… “Come, My child, and Rest in Me as One, as We Experience the Essence of Life from Beresheeth through Revelation, Before and Beyond!”

      Todah Raba Abba YHVH!
Thank You Very Much Abba YHVH!

      Shalom v’Ahava B’Shem YHVH

Donna I also don’t get that. But I can elation that they never took in that he would remember where he came from. `I can imagine that they thought that if he is brought up as a king he wouldn’t want to go to a life of slavery, and hardship. But we really don’t know I guess.

I am amazed at how much YeHoVaH speaks to Moses. WOW. I glad if it is a few words;-)

These are the sons of Israel, the sons of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob And it does say earlier that they are Hebrews at least Abraham was.

What I totally do not get is the age trying to kill Moses an Ziporah cutting the vorskin of het son. Did she do it to one son or both?
Why I figure is that Ziporah new that as a child of the sons of Israel (Moses), they had to have circumcised. Maybe the priesthood of Jethro that was not the case?
But some kind of foreknowledge must be going on here, I think.
Some maybe Moses didn’t know but Ziphorah did?

    Judith

    • Janet Bazzone
      January 26, 2019 at 6:23 am  /

I was thinking the same – why try to kill Moses? Perhaps God was requiring Moses to get his own house in order? This is serious stuff they are about to do. going to threaten the life of Pharoahs son.
Zipporah is probably not thrilled at leaving her home & family, and now we have to circumcise the boy- not something she wanted to do- thats a Hebrew thing not her thing.

    • Shalom Judith,

Yes, the Face-to-face – the face in Hebrew signifying Presence – Spirit-to-spirit Relationship our Abba Father YHVH and the spirit of Moshe Enjoy Together is the Relationship Abba Desires with All of His Creation.

Communication with Abba is – and can be – a Heartfelt Experience limited not by finite words.

Notice how Abba Instructs us throughout Scripture to Shama His Voice. To Shama is to Hear – to Feel and Follow with the Joyful Heart of a child. To Hear implies He is speaking, whereas to listen would imply He may or may not be speaking. Feel the difference? ?

Our Abba Father YHVH continues to speak with us, for us, and through us and Desires that we become Evermore Aware of His Heartfelt Presence within and among us. In this Spirit He Shares the following Message with us…

Today, if You Shama My Voice

“I have never hidden from you, nor have I ever forsaken you, remaining Here and involved in your Life in Infinitely Innumerable and Unimaginable Ways mostly unrecognized by you during your periods of self-imposed separation from Me. When separated from Me, you Experience Me not in the Intimate and Interpersonal Way I Desire when you are Resting in Me as One. The longer your period of separation from Me, the less Aware you are of Me due to the accumulated rough edges attached to you in this separation as your Attention is distracted away from the Love and Truth that is Me.

When you Share in My Desire for your Eternal Heartfelt Presence by returning to Me with All your heart, and with All your being, and with All your might – Giving Over your Attention to Me – Our Intimate Relationship is slowly Nurtured through this Heartfelt Presence Mutually Agreed and Exchanged as you once again begin to Recognize and Experience Me as I am and not how you have been taught in this separation to think Me to be. The Heartfelt Communication that is My Still Small Voice Living within you and which gives Life to your every breath slowly begins to be Recognized by you in the Lessons In Love from Our Everyday Experiences Encountered Together as you Rest Evermore in Me as One.

Where you once thought you forgot – or thought you remembered – you now Recognize this as My Still Small Voice. Where you once thought to congratulate yourself on finally Seeing a particular Heavenly Treasure longed for – or thought deftly of yourself in narrowly missing chopping off a fingertip on the cutting board – you now Recognize that you had Shama My Still Small Voice. The newly acquired skill to accomplish a necessary task given within your Calling is now Recognized by you as an ongoing Teaching Moment Experienced within the Heartfelt Communication that is My Still Small Voice – a Soft Whisper Quieter than thought itself – which is Tender and Sweet, Calm and Peaceful, Pure, Cool and Refreshing, Smooth, Light and Easy and which comes to you like the Refreshing dew which Gently Settles upon My Creation on a Calm, Cool morning.

Today, if you Shama My Voice, harden not your heart but Rest in Me as One while I continue to mold and shape you in My Tender Loving Hands – removing your rough edges which separate Us – so that you Experience Evermore Intimately My Presence within and among you – until the fast-approaching Moment of your Change when – in the twinkling of an eye – you will be like Me Forever Sharing in My Desire to Spend Eternity Together as One Exploring the Infinite Abundance of My Inseparable Presence and Provision Flowing Freely from the Storehouse of My Love – My Spirit.”

      Todah Raba Abba YHVH!
Thank You Very Much Abba YHVH!

Judith, Abba is speaking with you more than the few Words you are currently Aware of. Continue to “Follow your Heart” as Abba continues to Share the Truth of His Love and Presence with you and through you.

  • I’m still trying to figure out how Pharaoh’s daughter was able to take in a Hebrew baby without it becoming an issue with Pharaoh. Wasn’t there some question about how she suddenly “got” a baby? And considering that all Hebrew boys were to be killed, that she takes one in without his life being threatened?
It has to be a “God thing” because of who Moses would become but even still, it’s amazing that there was no conflict or questioning about the sudden appearance of a new family member????

    Donna

    • Donna, my $.02 on your questions:
      >>>I’m still trying to figure out how Pharaoh’s daughter was able to take in a Hebrew baby without it becoming an issue with Pharaoh. Wasn’t there some question about how she suddenly “got” a baby? And considering that all Hebrew boys were to be killed, that she takes one in without his life being threatened?<<<

In the ancient world, the water was a portal to the underworld. It was a place of judgement (we see the world flooded in judgement). Pharaoh orders all the male children be thrown into the water to die, yet in their view a child that survived the "ordeal of water" would have been protected by the gods. Moses taken from the water (death judgement) would have ensured he was accepted by Pharaoh.

We see the same with the story of Jonah. He told the men on the ship to throw him in the sea and His God would stop the storm. When the storm stopped, that reinforced their connection with the waters as a place of judgement. When Jonah comes back out of the sea 3 days later, those who witnessed it would have spread the world quickly that someone was found guiltless by the gods of the sea. Whatever that guy said would have carried with it an authority as one that survived an "ordeal by water."

      • Ken, that makes total sense to me. I never knew or thought about that theory. I always figured there was some subterfuge going on (like in the Then Commandments movie) that we weren’t privy to. So Pharaoh and his family accepted Moses into their realm thinking of him as someone special who could bring good things into their lives.

And like Judith said, he would have been brought up as a potential king with all the benefits but his heritage was something he probably always heard about and it drew him to go out to see his brethren and to look on their burdens, sort of like seeing how the other half lives. Whether it was from curiosity, the affects of his early formative years with his biological family, Yehovah’s leading in his life or all three, his heart was for the Hebrews and Yehovah used him to fulfill His purpose and promise for Israel. Amazing how it all happened!

Hi again I just made a connection with my previous comment … I noticed that in chapter 3 an angel of Yehovah was in the burning bush first then Yehovah noticed Moses had turned aside but after I’d written this a scripture flashed through my mind I recalled that Somewhere it is written that His angels or spirits messengers are a flaming fire . I came out of the comments and loupes in the part of the scripture I recalled because I had to find exactly where that was and it is psalms 104 v4 and it occurred to me that that is why the burning bush burned but didn’t burn up …. it was the fire of the messenger of the angel who or as it says in exodus 3 v2 angel of Yehovah or is it the spirit of Yehovah . That then makes me think of the book of Acts where the spirit of God tge gift that reveals all things, the comforter , appeared as tongues of fire on the day of Shavuot Pentecost . Wow . Can anyone else see this

      Julie,

I had the same thought but based on Isaiah 6 – the angels flying above the throne. I had never considered that before but it sort of stood out to me in this reading.

I listened to this week’s Prophet Pearls with Nehemia and Keith and Nehemia talks about the “seraph” in Isaiah 6. If I had not listened to that talk I would never have made the connection between the Angel of Yehovah in the burning bush with an angel of fire.

So awesome! I’m glad someone else picked up on this because now I don’t feel quite so crazy for having this thought. 🙂

    Shabbat shalom everyone
I noticed something I’d never noticed before in verse 2 of chapter 3 that it says here that an angel of Yehovah appeared tonmoses in the midst of the burning bush and later that tgen Elohim noticed that he had turned aside and then spoke to him I always assumed that Yehovah was the only being there communicating with Moses .

It struck me that Moses did not seem to include himself as a Hebrew. Neither did God for that matter. Verses 3:13,16 “the God you your fathers”. One spoken by Moses and the other by God. Verse 4:5 “God of their fathers” spoken by God. Read in context it stood out that Moses was separate from his people.

Also, In 4:20 I did not realize that Moses took his wife and sons with him to Egypt and that this is when Zipporah circumcised “her” not “their” son.

    Shalom everyone
As a mum I find this very troubling account . All of these babies the horror of what is happening here . The terrible dilemma of Moses mum and that of the midwives who’s purpose it is to bring life into the world yet faced with obedience to pharaoh or Yehovah . As a believer I see the reward of the courageous faith of these women to go against the pharaohs edict Moses mother saved his life and was rewarded by being with him as his wet nurse and was even paid to do it ….and the the midwives being rewarded by Yehovah by giving them households . I love that we can see God has already prepared the people and places to accommodate such faith , the princess is by the river bank ready to pluck him out of the water . What trustworthy God we have .

It occurs to me that Yehovah loves to use Arks a lot , in this case to protect Moses to preserve his life and Noah too to preserve mankind and animals . And also the commandments and significant things in the ark of the covenant which represents Yehovah’s mercy seat in the throne room of the third heaven. I’m thankful to our Father for that mercy towards his creation always . .

Good questions Jack. I had a few of these also. They feed YeHoVaH but that doesn’t mean they were Hebrews. I also get the feeling the were Egyptians but I have no Idea.

I love that YeHoVaH heard their groaning ; and YeHoVaH remembered HIS covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He “saw” the sons of Israel, and took notice of them. He never forgets because he also never sleeps nor slumbers!!

  • On the two midwives, was the midwives Hebrews, or Egyptions? The midwives called the hebrew mothers “they” and
Pharoah had said to them when the child is a Hebrew, so did they go to the Egyptians also? When Pharoah called them to account they were not punished. Of note also is the phraise, “they feared Yahovah” and the Lord gave them familes.

      Hello Jack ,
      ?
in verse 15 of chapter1 it says “Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives of whom the name of one was Shirphrah and the name of the other was Phua . I think they may have gone to the Egyptian women because they compare how the Egyptian women were when in labour compared to the Hebrews women .
