Yehovah is in the “Thick Clouds”

I love Shemot. For years our Father has used the words contained in this book to comfort, instruct, and correct, and this time through is no different.

While I have been reading along with the group and read through various posts, I haven’t participated since we actually started reading. I have been experiencing tremendous anxiety for several months and that made it difficult to find the energy to form thoughts about what I was reading. But as always, His words in Shemot have begun to heal me and I just have to “shout” it from the rooftops, or in this case, post it here in the hopes that my experience encourages others.

Our Father does not forget us even when it feels like He has. He had not forgotten the Hebrews and brought Moses into the world to start the rescue process. Moses “messed up”, but Yehovah would still use him to bring salvation to His chosen ones. Moses was painfully reluctant, but Yehovah gave him tools and a “push” in the right direction. The suffering of the people got worse as deliverance got closer and they cried out again to leave them alone, but Yehovah still had salvation in mind. He didn’t leave them alone; instead He saved the Hebrews and made Himself known to them and the Egyptians with spectacular displays of His power. And finally, He brought His people to a place where they would experience Him first hand and receive the instruction that would make them “a nation of priests” (19:6), a people who would exemplify and teach the ways of the Father of all Creation to all the peoples of the earth.

My favorite part of the entire story is this: “So the people remained at a distance, while Moshe approached the thick cloud where Hashem was” (20:18). Some translations use the word “darkness” instead of “cloud”, but either way it means the same thing to me, that our Father is found in places where we cannot see clearly or not at all. Yehovah was with the people in Egypt during their suffering, He was in the thick cloud where the people were afraid to go, and He has been with me even through my difficulties. He plans to save me, comfort me, and teach me in order that I may be a “priest” to Him, one who has the experience of His comfort and provision, and the knowledge if His instructions so that I can be a living example of Who our Father is to those around me.
