The Vowels
At first I was put off by the Israel Bible’s use of Hashem to replace not just the four letter Name but other words for God as well. But I have come to love having to bounce back and forth between the English and Hebrew to find out what Hebrew word is being replaced by Hashem.
I noticed something interesting in Exodus 4:10. Hashem is mentioned twice in the beginning of the verse but when I look to the Hebrew the Name is only there once. Then I found what other word was being used by Moses… Adonai. And guess what, the vowels are not the same as those in Yehovah just two words before.
Everywhere I have looked the editors of this version are silent about their choice of using these vowels for God’s personal name but whatever the reason it is amazing to see the name of Yehovah over and over again!

Hallelu-YAH! I just received my ‘The Israel Bible’, and guess what? It may say ‘Hashem’ in the English, but in Hebrew script mine has all three vowels (sh’va, cholam,q’matz)!!! I had to put my reading specs on and check a few places (including Ex.4:10), but sho’ nuff, THERE IT IS. Gotta hand it to Tuly. I don’t feel bad at all that I forgot to use my coupon code for the discounted price now that I see one of the most important things in Holy Scripture has been restored.

Rob I am also quite pleased with the Israel Bible that encourages me to interact with the Hebrew text!
