A Reference to John?
Shalom everyone
In this week’s reading of the scriptures, in II Corinthians 12:2-5 I read…
“2) I knew a man in the Messiah above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: Elohim knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven 3) and I knew such a man, (whether in the body,or out of the body, I cannot tell:Elohim knoweth;) 4) How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. 5) Of such an one will I boast: yet of myself I will not boast, but in mine infirmities.”
I am wondering… could this possibly be a reference to John? and his subsequent dictation of the book of Revelation?

Good question. John the Revelator had his vision, being taken up somewhere around 90 AD for his Revelation, so when Paul wrote this it hadn’t happened yet. I grew up being told Paul was speaking of himself but not naming himself so as not to boast, and we lost something in translation (like when Paul is called a Native Born Roman Citizen, but it should be understood he was ‘Naturalized’ by Sergius Paulus on Cyprus in Acts ch. 13 for saving him from a false Jesus – from that point on Saul is now called Paul). Maybe John had been taken up on a previous occasion also – I guess it’s still undetermined.
