  • Sometimes “holiness” can and should have been translated as “set-apartness” instead. This is one example. Being set apart unto Y’HoeVaH and his standards from the rest of the world and its ideals and standards becomes more clear when we include being ‘set apart’ as being ‘holy.’ Have you ever struggled in trying to described to someone what it means to be holy? I know in the past I have. Being able to quote “Be holy because I am holy” without examples leaves this a a very empty explanation. Claiming holiness from another source that requires no action on your part is the same thing. But now, with this example of what is food and not food from a scriptural perspective, this one of many ways to not only describe the concept of holiness but to embody it by the example of what you live out in your everyday life. Look for other examples of how to live set apart and holy as we continue reading.

For any who are new to the Kosher scene… I pretty much had the same problems… Mostly I look at the ingredient label and if there’s any ‘pork’ or ‘shellfish’… i.e. shrimp, clam, mussel, scallops, lobster, crab, octopus, or squid I put it back on the shelf. I also check to see if the meat is labeled “Halal” it it is, I also put it back into the shelf or section where I got it from. I enjoy turkey bacon… Oscar Meyer being the best of the three.. and I’ve modified other things such as “beans and Franks” with vegetarian baked beans with cut up beef franks with a little BBQ sauce. Turkey breakfast sausage is also good, if one adds a bit of red pepper to it.

  • I sure used to eat ‘unclean’ – like a garbage disposal. Been eating ‘Levitical’ about 15 years, and sure seems easy, now. But looking back, my favorite meal was breakfast – in an American Diner, of course. Can’t get an American breakfast without swine – it’s like a Porkfest if you think about it. Even the eggs are scrambled in bacon grease. Now, if someone sneaks a little bacon grease into the green bean casserole, I can tell, because it tastes rancid and bitter to me. For those who are struggling with this, pray and the cravings will pass. Careful what you ask for, though. For some reason I wound up with diverticulitis, and stay away from red meat and other things to keep healthy – except a little beef or lamb on rare occasion (yes, pork is technically a red meat, despite what the pork council might advertise). One serious benefit rarely discussed is the big reduction in body odor experienced by men and women after a couple years of eating ‘Levitical’. I never really had a weight problem, but most people say they’ve gotten back to a normal size after some time. Food for thought.

  • Shalom All,

I Encourage you to Allow our Abba Father YHVH to be your “Resource” in this – and in All – matters as He Teaches us through our Everyday Experiences Encountered how to “lean on Him in All our ways” including how to “Live with the Land and not off the Land.”

Awakening to the Soft and Gentle Whisper of His Still Small Voice beckoning us to begin another day’s “Lessons In Love” dining Together to Eternal Satisfaction on His Pure and Sweet Living Waters and Humble and Complete Bread of Life that are Spirit and Truth as We continue to Explore Together what Abba Describes as “the Infinite Abundance of My Inseparable Presence and Provision Flowing Freely from the Storehouse of My Love – My Spirit” – we Experience our Attention Resting Evermore in the Natural and Timeless Oneness that is He while the normal ways of this world become a distant memory soon forgotten as we Share from our heart “Daddy, it matters not to me what We do today, just as long as We do it Together!”

In this Spirit we may find ourselves asking our Abba Father YHVH, “Abba what do you consider Food?” as we find our Attention focusing Evermore on Whole – and Minimally Processed – items such as Domesticated Heirloom Fruits, Vegetables, Grains, Nuts and Seeds Locally Grown with minimal or no intentional exposure to chemicals and GMOs along with Locally Pasture-Raised Animals – as given by Abba in Scripture to us as Food – who also have minimal or no intentional exposure to chemicals and GMOs.

Perhaps we may even find Ourselves Gathering “Wild” Foods which are untamed by the hand of man and Maintained by the Hand of YHVH from the portion of The Garden in and around where we currently reside to be Enjoyed in the Moment and also Preserved – frozen, dried or canned – for future Sharing and Enjoyment.

In Spring we may find ourselves Gathering Root Vegetables such as Dandelion, Thistle and Burdock Roots and Green Vegetables such as Garlic Mustard Shoots and Greens, Stinging Nettle Stems and Greens, Wood Nettle Shoots and Greens, Honewort Shoots and Greens, Dandelion Greens and Stems (and Flowers!), Common Milkweed Shoots, Cow Parsnip Flower Stalks, and Pokeweed Shoots and Greens. For around a week in late Spring we may also Enjoy Black Locust Flowers.

Summer in Abba’s Garden is the Season of Fruits. Wild Berries including Strawberries, Mulberries, Serviceberries, Black Raspberries, Red Raspberries, Blackberries, Lowbush Blueberries, and Black Huckleberries along with other fruits such as Black Cherries, Chokecherries, and Beach Sand Cherries are part of the Unimaginably Beyond Awesome Abundance on Offer. Warm weather Greens such as Amaranth, Lamb’s Quarters and Black Nightshade are also in Season.

As Summer begins to give way to Fall we may Enjoy the last of the Summertime Abundance along with Fruits such as Highbush Blueberries, Autumn Berries, Nannyberries, Highbush Cranberries, Bog Cranberries and Apples, and Nuts such as American Hazelnuts, Hickory Nuts, American Butternuts and Black Walnuts. Seeds may also be Gathered at this time. Later into Fall we may also Enjoy Hackberries and American Persimmon Fruits along with Root Vegetables such as Dandelion, Thistle and Burdock Roots.

Processed Wild Foods such as Wild Rice and Maple Syrup may be purchased from others or Gathered and processed Ourselves in their Seasons. Should we find ourselves partaking of meat, Wild Game and Fish may also be on the menu among the Abundance to be Encountered while Tending to our Abba Father YHVH’s Garden Together with Him.

Always remaining Aware that “for in our Journey is found our Destination” that is the Sharing in His Desire for Eternal Heartfelt Presence as we Rest Evermore in the Tender Loving Hands of our Abba Father YHVH as He brings All matters to us while He continues to remove our rough edges which bring about our moments of inattentiveness which separate Us until the Appointed Moment of our Fast-Approaching Change when He Gently Inscribes His Torah on our Soft Childlike Hearts and we will Forever be as One in Him Enjoying Life as Intended in the New Yerushalayim in the New Heavens and New Earth and Beyond.

    Todah Raba Abba YHVH!
Thank You Very Much Abba YHVH!

    Shalom v’Ahava B’Shem YHVH
Peace and Love in the Name of YHVH

please post any resource that might give the accepted fundamentals

  • When we decided to turn to a scriptural diet the hardest parts were trying to figure out all the many things they put pork into, and towing the lines between legalism, jewish kosher, abominations and what it actually says in the Words on the page. We still keep an open mind in case we learn more, but for now we have settled into something that feels great! It all seemed so hard at first, but really the most difficult thing is a lack of clear resources for those who just want to live out of the Bible, some things like how the animals are slaughtered takes some historical context and translation work. If anyone has some good resources on eating biblically clean please share!
