Vayyera
Genesis 18:1-22:24

Who were the three men Abraham saw? What can we learn from the cheese burger of the Bible? What is the meaning of the name Isaac? Was the sin of Sodom really homosexuality? Was Ishmael scoffing, mocking, or something else altogether? The Torah clearly states that human sacrifice is an abomination to God, how then are we to understand the command to Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac? “In your seed all the nations of the earth may be…grafted”?

I heard a comment by the former Chief Rabbi of England that if God had not challenged Abraham in the way he did concerning sacrifice the importance of what God was commanding in being different to the practices of those around him would have been down played. In the same way we in this generation are down playing what God is asking us to do to honour him.
I also found the suggestion that other religions would claim that God does not ask His followers to do as difficult tasks as their religion does. I think this has application today as well.

About the 3 angles that came to see Abraham and YHVH stayed behind to prepare him for the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah . I sincerely believe that one of the angle was YHVH himself. Angels are spirits; God is Spirit as well. Would He not take on the form or appearance of man (Yeshua) just like the angels? How would He even speak with Moshe face to face; He had to take on the appearance or form as the man Yeshua.
I understand that allegory is a form of teaching and speaking in parables is on of them. However, I believe the stories are for what is says and is the be a sample to us for living the truth, way and life.
I love how Hebrews takes us back to the old path as a way of clarifying it’s meanings.

I see Sodom and sodomy mentioned. I would like to see more on the tanach proof of homosexuality being forbidden. This is due to the fact that I believe there are some who are either confused about or distorting what is written in Leviticus and the story of Sodom and Gommorah to say that YHVH was only speaking of temple prostitution and forced sex. They also use the scripture of the centurion in the brit chadasha to say that it was a sexual union between the centurion and his servant since Roman soldiers could not legally marry. It is actually an error that ALL roman soldiers could not legally marry. It was only that footsoldiers could not legally marry, but equestrian soldiers could. Centurions were equestrian soldiers. Anyway, could you provide any info for me?
