Ellicott’s Commentary for English Readers
(3) Blessed.–The word differs from that used in Matthew 23:39; Matthew 25:34, as expressing a permanent state of felicity, rather than the passive reception of a blessing bestowed by another.
The poor in spirit.–The limitation, as in “the pure in heart,” points to the region of life in which the poverty is found. In Luke 6:20 there is no such qualifying clause, and there the words speak of outward poverty, as in itself a less perilous and therefore happier state than that of riches. Here the blessedness is that of those who, whatever their outward state may be, are in their inward life as those who feel that they have nothing of their own, must be receivers before they give, must be dependent on another’s bounty, and be, as it were, the “bedesmen” of the great King. To that temper of mind belongs the “kingdom of heaven,” the eternal realities, in this life and the life to come, of that society of which Christ is the Head. Things are sometimes best understood by their contraries, and we may point to the description of the church of Laodicea as showing us the opposite type of character, thinking itself “rich” in the spiritual life, when it is really as “the pauper,” destitute of the true riches, blind and naked.

This poem sums it up for me.
Humble Of Spirit
Poem by Shlomo ibn Gabirol
Humble of spirit, lowly of knee and stature,
But in fear and awe abounding,
I come before Thee.
And in Thy presence to myself appear
As a little earth-worm.
O Thou, who fillest the earth and whose greatness is endless,
Shall one like me laud Thee,
And how shall he honor Thee?
The angels of heaven do not suffice,
How then one like me?
Thou hast wrought good and hast magnified mercies,
Wherefore the soul shall magnify praise of Thee.

I can’t believe you didn’t bring up Proverbs 29:23,”A man’s pride will bring him low, but the lowly of spirit will grasp honor [or “glory”].”(LGV) We see “shafel” TWO times in TWO different forms in this verse (yes Keith, I just brought up your favorite number TWO times 2day 🙂 ).
Unfortunately, Matthew might not of had this verse when he originally wrote. I wonder what the other 20 manuscripts have?

The research that I’ve done on these three words is completed here.
https://jehovajah.wordpress.com/2020/05/29/the-attitude-of-anxious-abasement
The importance of the concept of anxiously abasing oneself is made clear in both Deuteronomy chapter 8 and Isaiah. The combination of these two verbs gives the sense that a spirit that anxiously abases itself under the direction in a straight line by the hand of a prince Is what Yehovah respect most and what is his name to achieve in each of us.. Good night
I think I could go on and on about this, but I better get on and do it myself! ♥️♥️

Ruach in relation to Adam or humanity has to be freed from the word English spirit. It has to be taken back to the elemental force that we call wind. We know the power of that wind in relation to Elohim which is remarked upon in the first place as a brooding Mother hen or mother ego calming a tumultuous brood! The surface of the waters on which she broods is a strange Image. We know ducks and swans and seagulls move about on the surface of the waters of lakes and rivers and seas, but we also know that these birds brewed Eggs that they lay on land or at the edge of a water course or body of water. But once those Chick hatched, Those goslings come out of the eggs, and those cygnets start calling out to the mother Swan they are taken to the waters edge and launched into the running stream for the still waters following their mother everywhere and learning to feed. So we see these little ducklings, cygnets, goslings gliding on the water behind their m Whether it is hovering or gliding the association with caringother. The traditional image is that of an eagle hovering fluttering its wings to disturbThe brood in the nest or clean out the feathers et cetera. Whether it is hovering or gliding the association with caring is traditionally applied. This caring wind is associated with the Plaster cast mould off Elohim A clase E figurine Which the Potter as an artist has made which is like a sculpture of Elohim . These are like the famous Chinese terracotta figures, which are lifeless. But then Yehovah breezed into this figurine representing the Elohim , The spark of life. The basic concept in Hebrew is really the Puff. The best and perhaps only example given is that path which one blows onto a glowing embers To make them spark into a fire or flame, from which we can consider the use of bellows To increase the intensity of the burning of coal or Coke. And we can see that this path is the path of the lungs. So the image is The path of the lungs of a living being. But it goes beyond just the path to the drawing of breath as in a great yawn and the exhalation of the dead gases Replenishing them with the new and spreading them by stretching throughout the entire body. Neshemat Hayih . This is the basis of the Nephesh hayih . Later on we find this whole complex being referred to as having the Ruach hayih this in a mental wind of life. So we have a three-part structure to the functioning of a human being: the spark of life, The breathing blood being, and the spirit elemental wind of life.. When we get to some of these descriptions we have to look at the organs in which they are based. The heart and the lungs What are being referred to. From there we can determine the demeanour of a person. And those whose lungs are not fit to burst Are deemed to be submissive. Those that are directed in a straight path by the hand of the prince with deflated lungs, these other ones Yeshua Is referring to. And these ones I found described fully in the book of Isaiah, the bo is referring to. And these one I found described fully in the book of Isaiah, the book of Yeshua Yehovah that isyishayahu !

Are directed in a straight path but the hand of a prince man will never go astray From the path ofYehovah he will not settle down with mockers No walking up the path of those who want to cut them selves off from, or cut out chunks from the instructions on Yehovah all the things that he does will be well prospered by Yehovah and he will be like a luxuriant tree which is planted by the river side! So it will be for all those low of spirit people Who are directed in a straight path but the hand of a prince! Are directed in a straight path By the hand of a prince loo oh spirit person his is the Imperial administration just above the atmosphere ♥️♥️

FULLNESS… TO LOVE YEHOVAH WITH ‘FULLNESS’ THAT IS, poor in spirit…. TO LOVE YEHOVAH WITH ””ALL”’….. ALL OUR HEARTS, SOUL (SPIRIT), MIND & STRENGTH….
FULLNESS… WITH ”EVERYTHING” WE GOT. IS TO BOW, IN FULLNESS TO YEHOVAH’S WAYS, IN WORD & IN DEED… MAKING OURSELVES ‘poor’…. TO ‘FULLY’ HONOR HIM!

First off I’d like to say, it was truly a blessing to go with you to the Horns of Hittin where Yeshua had His Sermon. That was amazing in itself. Yes, we, the ’40’ of us tested the theory being spread out all over while Keith spoke and everyone was able to hear Keith.
When I looked at each of the verses given for Blessed/happy-esher, I see it originates from the Strongs #H833- Ashar WHICH MEANS – to go straight, also to set right, righten and can be ‘level, right, happy’; figuratively to go forward, be honest and prosper
In Ezekiel 18 I noticed there is another word for Repent, that being the Hebrew word “shub” in verses 26-28, 30, 32- turn, repent.
As for Isaiah 2:17 I noticed two instances, ‘bowed down – Shachach’ and ‘made low-Shapel’

Thank you for your continued teaching. I have been following your and Nehemiah’s teaching for a long time and enjoy your teachings. I have also read your books, etc.
When I was in Israel, our guide who was Israeli, read the Beatitudes as “Happy are.”
Congratulations to your son Kyle, following in your footsteps. “The fruit of the tree…” is very evident here in your life.

Some of the verses are different for the ashrei. Psalm 34:8, not 9 for example. But it is very clear for me that this term refers to a position of His Will.

Thank you for another easy to understand, informative lesson. You are edifying those of us who do not read Hebrew by giving us the history, time and context of Yeshua’s mission to man. Thank you.

Thank you for this well done study. In my humble opinion, ashrei could mean besides yourself with joy, confident or relaxed, blessed or enriched, humbly glad, gratefull, praisworthy. For me the practical application to be humble in spirit is to always seek to please Yehovah, to walk humbly with hiI was very ashrei to study with you guys.
